Note: The bag limit for black bears is two per license year (April 1 to March 31).

It is unlawful to hunt a black bear less than 2 years old or any bear in its company.

August 1 to August 31: Restricted to private land only, hunter must obtain permission from landowner prior to access.

Rationale:

In the Lower Mainland some fruit and vegetable producers have requested an extension to black bear hunting seasons into August, consistent with seasons in place in the Kootenay and Okanagan regions to mitigate concerns related to crop depredation while providing further hunting opportunity. This is particularity prevalent on the Fraser Valley berry farms and extends to Pemberton and Powell River farms and gardens.

The proposed August black bear hunting season would be restricted to private land only.

This opportunity could allow famers and hunters to cooperate in addressing farm management issues.
