  • Your valid public library card
  • Identification showing your current address

About BC OneCard

BC OneCard is a provincial program that supports reciprocal, in-person borrowing between participating public libraries.

If you have a library card from one community, you can borrow physical materials from other participating libraries when you visit in person.

BC OneCard is not a province-wide library card. Each library sets its own borrowing rules, so services and access may vary.

Some libraries offer full service to non-residents for a fee. Contact the library directly for details.

Start with your local library

Your local public library is your starting point for borrowing services.

Library staff can help you:

  • Understand what your card allows you to borrow at other libraries
  • Explain borrowing limits and conditions
  • Identify services available at other libraries

Use your card at another library

Public libraries choose whether and how to participate in reciprocal borrowing.

When you visit another library, access may vary based on:

  • Local policies
  • Borrowing limits for non-residents
  • Types of materials available

Library staff can explain what you can borrow during your visit.

Digital collections and eBooks

Most digital collections (such as eBooks, audiobooks and online databases) are licensed for residents of a library’s service area.

This means:

  • BC OneCard is mainly used to borrow physical materials
  • Access to digital resources is set by each library and may not be available to non-residents

B.C. does not have a province-wide program for lending digital library books. However, shared collections such as Library2Go allow libraries to work together to expand access to a wider range of digital titles by sharing costs.
