How to become an S-100 instructor

The S-100 endorsement process has been updated to provide stronger oversight and standardization as well as clearer expectations for instructor qualifications.
To gain endorsement as a recognized S-100 instructor, you will need to complete a short online form (20-30 minutes). New instructors will need to create a user profile with an email and password.
You will be prompted to provide information about:
- your wildfire experience
- your adult education experience
- three references

By completing this endorsement process, you will also gain access to updated course materials. Building on existing content, with clearly articulated learning objectives, the new package includes a refreshed presentation, instructor manual and student manual.
To reflect provider feedback, the S-185 Fire Entrapment and Avoidance Safety content has been rolled into the updated S-100 to reduce redundancy. The combination of both courses will now be referred to as the S-100.
Important: All previously endorsed S-100 providers can continue to offer the S-100 as usual in 2026 using their own or previously approved materials. The new endorsement process and use of updated materials will be mandatory in 2027.
