How to make a complaint

You can make a complaint in the way that works best for you, including:

  • By phone
  • By email
  • By mail
  • In person

Fill out the complaint form (PDF, 815KB) and contact us to share your thoughts.

Please note that some web browsers may not support all the features of PDF forms, such as fillable fields, and may produce errors.  We recommend you download the form and open it using the latest version of Adobe Acrobat Reader.

Using AI tools to prepare complaints

If you use AI tools to help prepare your complaint, please make sure you review it carefully before submitting. AI-generated content can sometimes make mistakes, include incorrect information or miss key details.

Clear and accurate information helps us understand your complaint and respond more effectively.

If your complaint is about a Section 211 report, it may be handled differently.

How we respond to complaints

Receiving complaints

We will aim to let you know we have received your complaint within 2 working days.

Contacting you

When possible, we will first call you to talk about your complaint. If needed, we may ask you for more information to better understand your concerns. Once we understand your concerns, we will determine how to proceed to resolve your complaint.

We may share updates and outcomes by phone, in writing, or in person, depending on the situation. To support clear communication, we generally do not use email for ongoing back-and-forth discussions.

Resolving complaints

If you are not satisfied with the response to your complaint, we will provide you with information about the available options.

If your complaint is about a Section 211 report, it may be handled differently.

Complaints about Section 211 reports

Your complaint may be handled differently if it is about a Section 211 Report. These reports are ordered by the court and help the court make decisions about parenting arrangements. They include Views of the Child Reports and Full Reports.

Complaints about the content of a report

Once a Section 211 Report has been filed with the court, it cannot be changed, withdrawn, or addressed through our complaints process. If you have any concerns about the content of the report, those concerns must be raised through the applicable court processes.

Complaints about the report writing service

We understand you may still have concerns about:

  • How the report was prepared
  • Your experience with our service

We encourage you to share these concerns directly with your Report Writer. If your problem is not resolved, you can ask to speak to the manager.

For more information, please call the Family Justice Report Service.

Complaints outside our authority

We are unable to accept complaints related to:

  • The actions or a decision of the judiciary
  • The actions of Law Society members
  • The outcome of a court hearing or court process
  • Services delivered by another agency
