The Justice and Public Safety Council was established in April 2013, in accordance with the Justice Reform and Transparency Act.

The council currently includes representatives from the justice and public safety sector and the Ministry of Children and Family Development.
Justice Summits are held at least once a year to support innovation and collaboration across the justice and public safety sector.
Each year, the council develops and publishes a three-year strategic plan for B.C.'s justice and public safety sector.
