Permit Connect B.C. - Adventure tourism

Last updated on April 8, 2026

Adventure Tourism plays an important role in British Columbia’s economy, especially in rural areas. It supports over 2,000 businesses and many jobs across the province.

Businesses that offer guided activities, transportation, training or entertainment on provincial Crown land - and that charge a fee - must have authority from the Province to operate on the land. On Crown land, this authorization is called a Crown land tenure. Any structures or improvements that support these activities also need approval.

A streamlined process for adventure tourism applications

To make this process faster and easier, the Province has launched the Adventure Tourism Hub. This service is part of the Look West economic and industrial strategy and supports the call for permitting improvements in B.C.'s Tourism Sector Action Plan. The Adventure Tourism Hub is designed to speed up and simplify permits for certain adventure tourism activities on Crown land.

The Adventure Tourism Hub focuses on applications related to:

  • Heliskiing and cat skiing
  • Helicopter-assisted guided activities, such as hiking and biking
  • Commercial snowmobiling and guided snowmobile activities

Explore what the Adventure Tourism Hub offers

  • A dedicated provincial team that focuses specifically on Crown land adventure tourism permits, helping ensure applications are reviewed in a consistent and timely manner
  • A project management approach, where the team helps track progress and coordinates with other government agencies when additional authorizations are needed
  • A single point of contact, so applicants know who to work with and where to get updates or answers to questions

Overall, the Adventure Tourism Hub aims to reduce decision-making timelines, improve communication, and make it easier for adventure tourism operators to do business on Crown land in B.C.

Important information for applicants

  • All eligible adventure tourism applications and replacements for expired Crown land tenures are processed by the Adventure Tourism Hub team
  • When applying for a Crown land tenure, applicants will be asked if their application is related to guided snowmobiling or helicopter or snowcat assisted guiding activities. Be sure to identify your application when prompted, so it is routed to the correct team
  • Applications for activities within BC Parks still require a Park Use Permit - apply for a Park Use Permit

The Adventure Tourism Hub will initially focus on this subset of adventure tourism operations. The learnings through this initial phase of implementation will help inform how the Province will consider applications for other types of Adventure Tourism operations. Stay tuned for updates.
