Halfway River First Nation/B.C. Landscape Planning Pilot

Last updated on August 29, 2024

The Halfway River First Nation/B.C. Landscape Planning Pilot (LPP) builds on a Letter of Agreement signed in January 2023 to address cumulative effects and establish shared decision-making and co-management in Halfway River First Nation’s core territory.

The LPP pilots the operational implementation of a broader Halfway River Adaptive Management Program and Plan for petroleum and natural gas (PNG). The LPP will guide PNG development and Halfway River restoration priorities within two discrete areas:

  1. LPP Area #1 covers the same area as the HV1-C Gundy Complex Plan. The LPP specifies mitigation measures that are required in addition to the measures required by the Gundy Plan.
  2. LPP Area #2 surrounds the Halfway River community.

The LPP sets out the mitigation requirements for PNG development and establishes how the B.C. government and Halfway River First Nation will work together to evaluate the LPP, pending future broader planning with Halfway River First Nation.
