Re: Door Swing Direction in Firewall

With reference to your letter of December 8, 1987, regarding the swing of doors in a corridor, through a firewall.

Your letter states that the building falls under the provisions of the 1980 Building Code. If such is the case while each door must swing in the direction of exit travel, it is not a requirement of the 1980 Code that this be the right hand leaf. This provision is included in the 1985 Building Code, but cannot be enforced under the 1980 Code.
