Re: Nailing Red Cedar Shakes & Shingles
With reference to your letter of May 29, 1980 regarding the method of fixing cedar shakes and shingles.
The Board considers that aluminum, stainless steel, or hot dip galvanized nails conforming to C.S.A. B111-1974 are acceptable, including aluminum nails with tee heads.
If power driven the driver must be fitted with a reduced length driver and the equipment colour coded, or otherwise suitably identified as modified for roofing. Manufacturers contacted have indicated that such drivers will be painted fire engine red.
