Re: Balustrade Guards, Subsection 9.8.7

With reference to your letter of December 10th, 1974, it is the determination of the Board that nominal two inch square opening chain link fence would not meet the requirements of the new Article 9.8.7.15. in the Building Code.

This article specifically attempts to prevent the climbing of exterior balcony balustrades or guards.

It must be assumed that the safety factor is included mainly for the benefit of young children and this should be used as the criteria to assess acceptance or rejection of a design.
