With reference to your letter of June 12, 1989 regarding problems with a masonry fireplace.

While we would like to assist, it is not possible to adequately identify your specific concerns from the diagrams submitted. We enclose comments on your appeal, from the Building Inspector, and some of these indicate lack of clearances as the issue. For us to assist we suggest that you meet the building inspector and agree on the points in dispute; these can then be submitted for resolution. If these consist only of insufficient clearances where they are specifically required by the Code, it may be that no appeal will be necessary, we cannot relax any provisions of the B.C. Building Code.

We will take no action at this time until we hear further on the situation.
