Re: Fire Separation-Fire Stopping at Exterior Wall, Appendix Note A-3.1.6.1.(1)(a)
With reference to your letter of April 19, 1989 regarding fire stopping at the intersection of a fire separation with an exterior wall.
From the information submitted we consider your interpretation of the Code to be correct for this situation. We regard the note A.3.1.6.1.(1)(a) as indicating a possible need for some type of packing material between the end of a fire separation and the inside face of the exterior wall, if this is not a tight fit, but not within the actual wall.
