Re: Structural Integrity of Fire Rated Exterior Walls, Appeals 903 & 903A

With reference to your letter of October 24, 1988 and earlier correspondence under Appeals No. 903 and 903A.

We consider that the basic principles of our decision were adequately expressed in Appeal No. 903. This interpretation applies regardless of the type of construction, which we assume to be that permitted by the Code for the specific circumstances.

If you have a specific problem with an authority having jurisdiction relating to the interpretation or application of the Code to one or more of the matters raised in your letter, then that may form the subject of a separate appeal, which can be referred for our attention.

In relation to the application of equivalents to the Code, we refer you to Section 2.5.
