Overview

The GeoMod program supports pharmacies working with LTC facilities in B.C. Under the GeoMod program, PharmaCare pays pharmacies a $15 monthly fee per bed for eligible LTC beds located in areas of lower population density in B.C. The GeoMod fee supplements the $65 monthly PharmaCare Plan B capitation fee.

Eligibility

To be eligible for the GeoMod fee, LTC beds must be in a facility registered for PharmaCare Plan B, in an area defined as remote, rural, rural hub, small urban or medium urban, according to the Community Health Service Areas (CHSAs) classification.

The locations of the facilities currently served by Plan B pharmacies are in the list below. If your pharmacy will be serving a facility that you think may be eligible for the GeoMod fee, but does not appear on the list below, you can email Health Insurance BC (HIBC) at InformationSupport@hibc.gov.bc.ca to confirm eligibility.

How to submit claims

GeoMod fee claims can be submitted for eligible LTC beds serviced from July 1, 2026, onwards using the existing HLTH 5335 PharmaCare Prescription Invoice form.

Pharmacies will also be able to retroactively claim the GeoMod fee for eligible LTC beds serviced from April 1 to June 30, 2026. PharmaCare is developing a process for submitting retroactive claims, which will be shared in a future edition of the PharmaCare Newsletter. Subscribe now!

When completing the HLTH 5335 invoice, pharmacies should:

  1. Indicate the number of LTC beds that are eligible for the GeoMod fee plus the regular capitation fee ($65+$15=$80), as well as the number of LTC beds that are only eligible for the Plan B monthly capitation fee ($65) as two separate items.
  2. Clearly indicate the month of service by writing this underneath the GeoMod and regular Plan B bed counts.
