The benefits in these tables are covered under the National Pharmacare Plan (Plan NP). The federal government contributes funding for national pharmacare.
Benefits with partial coverage are subject to Low Cost Alternative (LCA) pricing. Please prescribe a fully covered version whenever possible, to save your patient extra expense.
Special Authority is not required for any menopausal hormone therapy (MHT) benefits covered under Plan NP.
PharmaCare's Full Payment Policy applies to Plan NP benefits with full coverage. This means pharmacists cannot charge clients for the medication or any service associated with the dispense.
Plan NP dispenses do not count towards the Fair PharmaCare deductible or family maximum.
Interpretation of clinical trials on menopausal hormone therapy (MHT), including the landmark Women’s Health Initiative study, has evolved over time and has significantly influenced how clinicians understand and prescribe MHT. The Ministry of Health remains committed to supporting the appropriate use of MHT by providing additional educational resources.
Clinicians can access accredited continuing medical education on these medications at no cost through the Ministry‑funded B.C. Provincial Academic Detailing (PAD) service. For more information, please visit Medications for menopause-associated vasomotor and genitourinary symptoms.
Benefit lists
If a client has a prescription for a Plan NP medication, it is covered. It doesn’t matter what the prescription is for.
