Section 5 of the Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act (Declaration Act) requires the Province report annually on the progress of work to align laws with the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UN Declaration) and the implementation of the Declaration Act Action Plan.
These reports are developed in consultation and co-operation with Indigenous Peoples in B.C. and publicly released by June 30 each year.
The 2025/26 Declaration Act Annual Report details progress made on 84 of 89 specific Declaration Act Action Plan actions, as well as work to align provincial laws with the UN Declaration, between April 1, 2025, and March 31, 2026. It also shows the collective efforts of how people working together can turn commitments into actions throughout the province. An accompanying summary report provides a clear overview of this work and includes stories that show how it is making a difference in communities across British Columbia.
