Completed in June 2024, the new three-lane, climate-resilient bridge at Falls Creek, named CəX̣ʷ Cixʷ (Check-Chow,) reflects a partnership with the Nlaka'pamux Nation and neighbouring communities, honouring the cultural significance of the land while emphasizing the Province's commitment to resilient infrastructure that respects Indigenous heritage.
CRC’s collaboration with the Nlaka'pamux Nation was vital for the project's success. This partnership facilitated site lunches organized by the local band, a ceremonial bridge naming led by community leaders, and job opportunities for Indigenous workers and local businesses, ensuring lasting benefits for the surrounding communities.
The team’s persistent dedication to safety and environmental stewardship set a high standard throughout the project. They effectively adapted to unexpected challenges, such as wildfire management and extreme weather, achieving zero lost time due to safety incidents. Their commitment to environmental protection included daily site reviews, water monitoring for Little and Falls Creeks, and innovative water collection methods during drought conditions.
