Project: Highway 1 – Chase Creek Road to Chase West
Location: Highway 1 between Neskonlith Community and the Village of Chase

R.F. Binnie & Associates' Highway 1 Chase West four-laning project prioritizes safety and accessibility for the Neskonlith Community and the Village of Chase. The project involved widening a 3.3-kilometer section of highway and constructing two at-grade protected T-intersections, all while enhancing active transportation options.

By engaging with First Nations, the municipal government, businesses, and residents, the project team developed a comprehensive active transportation network, including a grade-separated tunnel, multi-use paths, crosswalks, and paved shoulders. The project also considered the needs of the local farming community by incorporating a livestock underpass. With strong community support and a commitment to safety and sustainability, R.F. Binnie's innovative approach encourages sustainable travel options in a rural environment.

McElhanney Ltd.

This project improves active transportation connections and increases capacity, enhances safety, and improves accessibility for transit users in the Lower Mainland.

Project: Phibbs Transit Exchange Improvements
Location: North Vancouver

McElhanney's Phibbs Transit Exchange Improvements project transformed a constrained North Vancouver site into a climate-resilient and community-focused transit hub. The reconfigured exchange improved traffic flow with a relocated bus entrance and added a multi-use path for cyclists and pedestrians. Pedestrian-friendly design elements, including landscaping and fencing, guide transit users to designated crosswalks.

The project incorporated green infrastructure like rain gardens and soil cells to manage stormwater runoff and improve water quality. By collaborating with Indigenous groups and other partners and stakeholders, and prioritizing sustainable design, McElhanney created a transit exchange that enhances mobility and strengthens community connections.
