Northwest Hydraulic Consultants Ltd.

Project: Highway 97 Flood Risk GIS Database – Chetwynd to West Pine
Location: Peace District
Assignment Contract Value: $300,000

Highway 97 Flood Risk Geographic Information System (GIS) Database assesses the flood risk to a 75-kilometre segment of Highway 97 in the Pine Pass area, west of Chetwynd. The GIS identifies flood prone areas to prioritize investments for resilient infrastructure.

Northwest Hydraulic Consultants developed a draft scope of the project quickly and was responsive to revisions and changes to the project scope.

During the project, Northwest Hydraulic Consultants worked closely with the ministry to address programming and server issues as the team integrated the work into the BC Map Hub. This data driven GIS allows the ministry to efficiently identify at risk segments of Highway 97 to prioritize these locations for climate-adaptative improvements.

Project: George Massey Tunnel Lighting and Safety Systems Upgrade Project
Location: Richmond, Delta
Assignment Contract Value: $1.7 million

The George Massey Tunnel Safety Systems Upgrade Project implemented a lighting-control system that uses a sensor to monitor ambient light conditions and automatically adjust tunnel lighting. Motorists now have an easier time adjusting to lighting which creates a safer environment in the tunnel. The project promotes Climate Change Adaptation and safety through a power-efficient lighting system, multiple redundancies and improved fire detection and suppression.

PBX Engineering Ltd. and DMD & Associates Ltd. completed construction at night to ensure the tunnel was operational during the day for the Lower Mainland road network. The George Massey Tunnel Safety Systems Upgrade Project improved the reliability and safety of the George Massey Tunnel for motorists.
