Foster Caregiver Payments

Expecting a payment from the ministry by mail? Deliveries will be affected by the Canada Post service disruption as well as BCGEU job action. We are working hard to minimize the delays, and more information will be shared as soon as possible.

In the meantime, you are encouraged to set up direct deposit for future payments. Complete the Direct Deposit Application (PDF, 407KB) and bring ID to a ministry office or Service BC location. Foster caregivers receive a monthly maintenance payment that covers the costs of caring for a child or youth in care, dependant on the level of care provided. Rates below are effective July 1, 2024.

Maintenance Payments

Foster caregivers receive maintenance payments as an allowance paid for each day that a child or youth is placed in a home.

Age 12 - 19 $1,711.50

Service Payments

Foster caregivers who provide specialized care for children and youth with moderate to extraordinary support needs receive a service payment in addition to the maintenance payment per child or youth. This additional payment recognizes the special caregiving skills and extra time required to meet the needs of a child or youth.
