Fumigation pesticide applicator certificate

There are 4 categories for this certificate:
Fumigation – CO2:
- For the use of carbon dioxide to fumigate grain or flour inside storage bins, silos, railcars or grain elevators
Fumigation – Container:
- For the use of fumigants to treat stored grain or commodities in shipping containers, railcars or under tarps
Fumigation – Ships & Structures:
- For the fumigation of ships, aircraft or buildings, and the fumigation of bulk cargo in ships
Fumigation – Soil:
- For the use of chloropicrin, dazomet, metam potassium, metam sodium, and/or methyl bromide to fumigate soil.

As of September 14, 2014, Health Canada implemented label improvements that affect the use of soil fumigants containing the active ingredients chloropicrin, dazomet, metam sodium and metam potassium:

What study materials do I need?
The study materials for all four fumigation certificate categories are listed in the document below.
Which exam should I write?
Get the study materials listed above for the fumigation category you wish to get.
- If you will be using carbon dioxide to fumigate grain or flour inside storage bins, silos, railcars or grain elevators, arrange to write the three-hour Fumigation – CO2 exam
- If you will be using fumigants to treat stored grain or commodities in shipping containers, railcars or under tarps, arrange to write the three-hour Fumigation – Container exam
- If you will be using fumigants to treat ships, aircraft or buildings, and bulk cargo in ships, arrange to write the three-hour Fumigation – Ships & Structures exam
- If you will be using fumigants (chloropicrin, dazomet, metam potassium, metam sodium, and/or methyl bromide) to treat soil, arrange to write the three-hour Fumigation – Soil exam. *This exam is under construction. Email bc.ipm@gov.bc.ca for more information

The cost to write the exam is $90.
Your exam mark will determine the term of your certificate:
- 5 year (75% and above)
- 1 year (60% - 74%)
How do I recertify?
- Fumigation – CO2 pesticide applicator certificates must recertify by writing the Fumigation – CO2 exam
- Fumigation – Container pesticide applicator certificates must recertify by writing the Fumigation – Container exam
- Fumigation – Ships & Structures pesticide applicator certificates must recertify by writing the Fumigation – Ships & Structures exam
