Risk assessments, the Emergency and Disaster Management Act, and the Climate Change Accountability Act

Last updated on July 25, 2024

The disaster and climate risk and resilience assessment initiative aligns with the new Emergency and Disaster Management Act, and will help the Province develop guidance for ministries, local authorities, critical infrastructure owners and public-sector organizations to complete risk assessments that are required under the legislation.

This includes guidance on bringing climate change, local and Indigenous knowledge, and information on equity, diversity and inclusion into risk assessment procedures.

Under the Climate Change Accountability Act, there are also legislated requirements to report on climate change risks every five years, with the next report due in 2025.
