You need a security business licence to start and operate a security business in B.C.

Unless exempt you require a security business licence to operate the following:

  • An armoured car guard service
  • A locksmith
  • A private investigator
  • A security alarm service
  • A security consultant
  • A security guard service
  • A body armour vendor

You are required to report any changes to your information and replace your licence if it is lost or stolen. You can also apply to modify the type of security services your business provides.

To use the online system, Security Businesses require an active Business BCeID profile. Business BCeID provides secure access to online government services, including the Security Services platform.
