Standards

Official Level 1 - UXSO 10 (2 credits):

  • Theory course
  • Examination/evaluation
  • 25 hours of practical experience as a student official

Official Level 2 - UXSO 11 (4 credits): 

  • Theory course
  • Examination/evaluation
  • 50 hours of practical experience as student official (in addition to the 25-hour requirement in Level 1)

Official Level 3 - UXSO 12 (4 credits): 

  • Theory course
  • Examination/evaluation
  • 50 hours of practical experience as student official (in addition to the 75-hour requirement in Level 1 and 2)
    • Official Level 3 is for Provincial and Disability Sports Organizations that can demonstrate a program progression to a higher standard of officiating

Knowledge and assessment 

Student officials at Level 1 must:

  • complete a theory component
  • pass an examination/evaluation
  • complete practical student official experience with sign off by the Provincial or Disability Sport Organization

Student officials at Levels 2 and 3 must:

  • complete a theory component
  • pass an examination
  • complete practical student official experience with an evaluation signed by a Provincial or Disability Sport Organization designated official educator or evaluator

Practical experience

Student official must complete the minimum number of hours required for their level. Officiating hours can be acquired in multiple sports. 

A student can accumulate officiating hours in more than one sport. They must complete the theory, examination, or evaluation/assessment component for each sport providing hours. The student official must have a record (booklet, passport, etc.) to confirm the number of hours spent on the practical component. A Provincial or Disability Sport Organization designated official must sign this record.

Getting credit

Students are required to confirm involvement in an approved athlete program. They must contact the appropriate Provincial or Disability Sport Organization to request a verification letter.

Students are responsible for submitting their letter of verification to a high school counselor.
