About the Anti-Racism Data Act

The Anti-Racism Data Act was introduced in spring 2022. It allows the Province to safely collect and use information to address systemic racism. This will help us to identify gaps in our programs and deliver stronger public services for everyone in B.C.

There are several projects under the Act that further guide this work, including:

  • Anti-racism research priorities
  • Annual release of statistics

Anti-racism research priorities

Updated every two years, the Province releases a set of anti-racism research priorities developed in consultation and cooperation with Indigenous Peoples and in collaboration with the Anti-Racism Data Committee. Setting priorities in this way helps to focus our research on the areas that matter most to Indigenous Peoples and racialized communities.

Annual release of statistics

Each year, by June 1, government must publish statistics or other information respecting systemic racism and racial equity.
