Data-related legislation
Last updated on April 11, 2025The Anti-Racism Data Act and Statistics Act guide how we collect, use, and store information. Other laws, like the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FOIPPA) also apply.
Some standards, like the Gender and Sex Data Standard or Core Metadata Standard are not part of these laws but still follow established information management and technology standards and guidelines under the Core Policy and Procures Manual.
Anti-Racism Data Act
The Anti-Racism Data Act enables us to collect and use data to address systemic racism in government services.

Statistics Act
The Statistics Act ensures that information that the government collects is kept confidential and only used for statistical purposes.
