BC public sector board training and resources

There are approximately 260 agencies, boards, commissions and tribunals in British Columbia’s public sector. More than 2,000 government appointees serve these organizations and play a critical role in their oversight and governance. Board members advance and protect the public interest as stewards of reliable public service delivery and fair and accessible dispute resolution processes, among many other priorities for British Columbians.

A central part of the Crown Agencies and Board Resourcing Office’s (CABRO) mandate is to deliver online training, conferences, up-to-date information on provincial government initiatives and networking opportunities that foster engaged and informed boards. There is also an ongoing need to develop foundational training based on current best practices in public interest governance. Foundational training addresses requirements, standards and case studies in governance, finance, human resources and risk management. Together, CABRO offerings benefit both experienced and new board members, including approximately 50% of appointees who began their service in 2017.
