Safe Passing Distance Sign

Find specifications for Safe Passing Distancing Signs for vulnerable road users. 

Beginning June 3, 2024, road authorities may begin installing safe passing distance signs. The province has created the following sign designs. Other road authorities are welcome to utilize these designs if they choose.

The minimum passing distances are: 

  • Highways 50 km/h or less: 1 m
  • Highways more than 50 km/h: 1.5 m
  • Drivers interacting with vulnerable road users who are in separated and protected cycling lanes and on sidewalks: 0.5 m
