About the CSU

The CSU, under the Policing and Security Branch of the Ministry of Public Safety and Solicitor General, works with law enforcement and other agencies in B.C. and across Canada to investigate and disrupt illegal cannabis operators in B.C. who are in contravention of the Cannabis Control and Licensing Act (CCLA).

CSU investigations result from proactive strategies and complaints from:

  • The public
  • Government agencies
  • Police agencies, and
  • Legal cannabis operators

The CSU can undertake a range of enforcement activities, including:

  • Conducting inspections without a warrant
  • Seizing and destroying cannabis
  • Issuing violation tickets
  • Obtaining warrants and issuing demands for information
  • Summoning witnesses
  • Conducting administrative hearings
  • Recommend charges to the British Columbia Prosecution Services
  • Apply for an injunction from the Supreme Court of British Columbia

Enforcement action may lead to penalties.
