The Wills, Estates and Succession Act Explained: Original 2014 Version

The Wills, Estates and Succession Act came into force on March 31, 2014. In response, the Ministry of Justice drafted The Wills, Estates and Succession Act explained to support transition to the Act. Some sections have been amended since this time.

The Wills, Estates and Succession Act explained:

• Describes the meaning and intention of each section of the Act
• Is based on the British Columbia Law Institute report, Wills, Estates and Succession: A Modern Legal Framework
• Is also available in six separate parts that correspond to the six parts of the Act: 
  • Part 1 – Definitions and Interpretation
  • Part 2 – Fundamental Rules
  • Part 3 – When a Person Dies Without a Will
  • Part 4 – Wills
  • Part 5 – Benefit Plans
  • Part 6 – Administration of Estates
