Pre-tenure plans enable the disposition of petroleum and natural gas tenure in the Muskwa-Kechika Management Area (M-KMA). These plans — drafted with input from stakeholders, First Nations and government agencies — guide environmentally responsible oil and gas development.
Pre-tenure plans are required under the Muskwa-Kechika Management Area Act. They identify strategic objectives as well as management objectives, indicators and targets for various values unique to the M-KMA. The BC Oil and Gas Commission (OGC) will consider the objectives in pre-tenure plans when adjudicating and issuing permits for oil and gas activities. Guidelines for conducting geophysical activities within the M-KMA can be obtained from the OGC.
The Government of B.C. is responsible for monitoring oil and gas activities and ensuring that the strategic and management objectives identified in the results-based framework used in pre-tenure plans are being achieved.
