Mineral Titles Legacy Claim Map Confirmation

Last updated on March 24, 2021

Effective January 1, 2008, legacy claims are determined to hold rights to the ground as depicted on the Mineral Titles Online (MTO) map, regardless of where the legal posts are situated. For further details, please refer to Section 24.1 (5) of the Mineral Tenure Act.

Resources

1. Claim Coordinates: The Mineral Titles Branch can provide claim holders with a map and/or an ASCII (text) file with UTM coordinates that will help in defining a legacy claim boundary on the ground.

To request coordinates, contact the Mineral Titles Office and provide the following information:

  1. Subject: "Request: Legacy Claim Coordinates"
  2. Your name
  3. Client Number
  4. Email address
  5. Legacy Claim Tenure Number(s)

NOTE: (1) A request for coordinates may trigger a review of the digital data in your area of interest.  Should there be a need for data-cleanup, a request for coordinates may take longer than expected to fulfill. (2) Some legacy claims straddle UTM zones (i.e. are within the boundaries of two UTM zones). Ensure to make note of and assign the correct UTM zone to each of the provided coordinates in your navigation instruments (i.e. GPS units). Here is an example of a claim that straddles two UTM zones: Map Example, Coordinates Text File

2. Loading Waypoints from ASCII (text) files to a GPS Unit in Pathfinder Office (PDF)
