Remote Community Energy Strategy Working Group

Last updated on September 27, 2023

Reaching the CleanBC goal of 80% diesel reduction in remote communities by 2030 can only be achieved in collaboration with remote communities.

In 2021, the Province invited representatives from Indigenous nations with remote communities to create the Remote Community Energy Strategy (RCES) Working Group.

The RCES Working Group informs the development of the CleanBC Remote Community Energy Strategy and provides recommendations for decarbonizing remote community electricity and heating systems.

In June 2022, the working group provided a Recommendations Report (PDF, 15 MB) with an appendix from the Environmental Law Centre (PDF, 985 KB) to the Province.

The RCES Working Group continues to support the implementation of RCES and meets with provincial representatives regularly.

The RCES Working Group includes members from the following Indigenous nations:

  • Gitga’at
  • Haida
  • HaíÉ«zaqv (Heiltsuk)
  • Kwikwasut’inuxw Haxwa’mis
  • Nuxalk
  • Ulkatcho
  • Xeni Gwet’in
