Compared to open radical prostatectomy, existing evidence indicates robotic-assisted radical prostatectomy is associated with limited additional benefits and higher costs; and at this time, further investment in robotic systems for radical prostatectomy is not recommended.
As the field of robotic-assisted surgeries advances, it is recommended the evolving evidence on the benefits/risks and costs/savings associated with the use of robotic systems for other surgical interventions, beyond radical prostatectomy, be considered in future surgical strategies.
