Health Technology Assessment Committee Recommendations:

  1. Understanding the foundational role that order sets play in health care delivery and the significant benefit of targeted order sets to patients and clinicians, a provincially coordinated and standardized process should be created that enhances current efforts with emphasis on facilitation of clinician oversight of order sets and support for local and regional input into the development and maintenance of order set content.
  2. The developmental process of order sets should be led by the Provincial Clinical Policy team at PHSA who will convene clinical tables to prioritize and define the content of order sets, which informatics specialists will incorporate into appropriate tools for clinicians.
  3. As healthcare in the province evolves, an organized approach should be taken to create and maintain a repository of order sets used that all health authorities can draw from for use in their unique contexts.
