Paul Choi was first elected as MLA for Burnaby South-Metrotown in 2024.
Paul was appointed the Parliamentary Secretary for Trade in July 2025. He previously held the role of Parliamentary Secretary for Asia-Pacific Trade.
He brings to the B.C. legislature a wealth of experience in public safety, law and community leadership.
Before joining the legislative assembly, Paul served as a first responder, small business owner and lawyer. These roles strengthened his ability to serve, support and protect his community. As a qualified mediator and arbitrator licensed by the Alternative Dispute Resolution Institute of Canada and an executive member of the Criminal Justice Section of the Canadian Bar Association, Paul is experienced in conflict resolution and justice reform. Paul also held leadership roles in Burnaby, including the president of the Burnaby North Road Business Improvement Association and a member of the board of governors at Kwantlen Polytechnic University (KPU). Additionally, he served as vice-chair of the Registration Committee for the College of Health and Care Professionals of BC.
Paul is a strong advocate for multiculturalism, economic development and human rights. He served on many community advisory committees. His outstanding leadership in the business community was recognized when he was awarded the 2020 Young Professional of the Year Award. Paul has a deep understanding of the challenges and opportunities facing local entrepreneurs and is dedicated to working with Burnaby businesses to create a thriving and inclusive place to live and work.
