The nominees for the 2020 Award of Excellence for Community Service are:

Hockey teams

NorLand developed the, Our Shared Purpose: Helping Build Enduring Communities, Together, program to support its communities through the following initiatives: supporting students through scholarships; co-op and employment opportunities; supporting the CKNW Kids’ Fund; sponsoring CCW and supporting Women in Construction with bursaries; participating in the BCCWITT Be More Than A Bystander program; fundraising for the Dixon Transition Society; participating in the #LunchboxChallenge; sponsoring the CFB Shilo Command Team Golf Tournament and Supporting Our Troops; supporting Bridges to Prosperity; cleaning up along Norland Avenue and River Road in Delta; hosting diversity and inclusion events for employees; and supporting families through the NorLand Kids Club.

Yellowhead Road & Bridge (Vanderhoof) Ltd. ensures that the road to Murray Ridge Ski Area and Terrain Park and extensive parking lots are cleared from snow and sanded in time for the arrival of the daily school bus delivery of students. Yellowhead Road & Bridge (Vanderhoof) Ltd. also provides summer grading maintenance and assistance with moving large snow pile ups as the winter progresses.

This contribution from Yellowhead Road & Bridge (Vanderhoof) Ltd. is instrumental for the Murray Ridge Ski Area and Terrain Park to operate safely and within its budget so they may continue to offer skiing at an affordable cost to the region.

Yellowhead Road & Bridge (Vanderhoof) Ltd. provides extensive services by donation to the Nechako Valley Exhibition Society’s 17-hectare (42-acre) grounds. Its assistance with financial sponsorship for events, grading roadways, provision of gravel and dirt for numerous infrastructure projects, footing for its riding arenas and snow plowing in the winter has allowed it to improve and expand its services to the community.

The Amber Light Tribute was a drive-by parade organized by the BC Road Builders and Heavy Construction Association to show appreciation and support for the steadfast work of frontline health-care workers throughout the pandemic.

On April 15, 2020, 1,200 road builders and construction workers from across the province drove with amber lights flashing in a parade around their communities, which passed in front of hospitals and health-care facilities. This community event was attended by Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure representatives, the RCMP and first responders. The Amber Light Tribute was an inspiring example of outstanding community service.
