Complete B.C.'s responsible sale and service training program for liquor

Eligibility

Before you begin operating your establishment, you and your staff must meet training requirements. Generally, all licensees, managers and servers need a Serving It Right (SIR) certificate. An SIR certificate expires five years from the issue date. 

Whether or not you need an SIR certificate, depends on your liquor licence type.

Overview

Serving It Right (SIR) is B.C.’s mandatory responsible beverage service training program. The program educates liquor licensees, managers and servers about the responsible sale and service of liquor.

There are three steps to receiving your Serving It Right certification:

  1. Study the online course
  2. Pass the exam
  3. Get your certificate

Fees

The Serving It Right online exam costs $35 plus GST.

  • Your purchase includes three attempts for the final exam
  • If you don’t pass the exam after your third try, you can re-take the exam for $35

Complete the course online. Once you complete the course and exam, you get your test results right away.

If you pass, you can download a copy of your certificate. 

A PDF print version of the course is also available for those who do not wish to take the course online.
