Apply for a Liquor Charitable Auction permit

For non-profit organizations that want to raise funds for charity.

Eligibility

The Liquor Charitable Auction permit is for non-profit organizations working towards the relief of poverty and other purposes beneficial to the community. It includes the advancement of

  • Education
  • Religion
  • Recreation
  • Sports or athletics
  • Aid to persons with disabilities
  • Culture
  • Youth or senior citizens

Before You Start

Applications must be received thirty (30) days before the start date of the auction.

Overview

A permit is required only when the volume of liquor to be auctioned over the duration of the auction event is:

  • Over six litres (more than eight, 750 ml bottles of spirits), or
  • Over 18 litres (more than twenty-four, 750 ml bottles of wine), or
  • Over 51.2 litres (more than 24 six-packs of 355 ml bottles of beer, cider or coolers)

Fees

The application fee is $50.

Application requirements

Fill out the form: 

You will need to provide:

  • If you're a charitable organization under the Income Tax Act
    • Your business number
  • If you're an incorporated non-profit under the Incorporation Act
    • Your incorporation number
  • The recipient organization name
  • Event information
  • The estimated amount of liquor to be auctioned
  • A short description of how the funds will be used by the recipient organization

Submission instructions

1. Submit the application package by either:

  • Email to LCRB.Intake@gov.bc.ca *DO NOT email credit card information. Wait for a call-back to pay over the phone.

2. Pay the $50 application fee by either: 

  • Credit card - Wait for a call-back from a Branch agent to process the payment over the phone
  • Mailed cheque, payable to Minister of Finance
    • $30 fee charged for non-sufficient funds
  • Mailed money order, payable to Minister of Finance

Reporting requirement after the event

After the event you need to report the revenues and expenses associated with your charitable auction event, using the following form:
