Program description

The Ministry of Education and Child Care is committed to working with First Nations throughout British Columbia to incorporate language and cultural activities into the External Credentials Program. As of July 1, 2024, First Nations-developed language and culture external credentials count toward the Indigenous-focused graduation requirement.

Form

First Nations wishing to offer language and culture programming through the External Credentials Program are invited to complete the External Credentials Submission Form: First Nations Language and Culture Programs.

Getting credit

To receive credits, students must present documentation. All letters and certificates must:

  • Include the student's name and credential
  • Date credential was awarded 

Student responsibility

Students are responsible for submitting their proof of completion or achievement for an external credential to their high school counselor. Although students may earn external credentials at any time, students are encouraged to submit their documentation only after they enter Grade 10.
