BC Public Service planning officers are responsible for the scientific, aesthetic, and orderly disposition of land, resources and services related to the physical, economic and social efficiency, health and well-being of urban and rural communities and geographic areas.
Planning officers' activities include:
- Dealing with issues focused on the conversion of land from natural habitats to urban built areas
- Providing advice and guidance on land use planning issues and land use proposals in designated areas such as parks, agricultural reserves, municipal and rural communities
- Planning the development of transportation related infrastructure
