Last updated on December 9, 2025BC Public Service project assessment officers must have the technical expertise and experience necessary to be able to work on complex resource management issues (fish, wildlife).
They must also possess high-level skills (ability to work with high-profile, politically sensitive issues, meet tight deadlines, and manage competing interests of First Nations and other interest groups) necessary to support the environmental assessment office in carrying out its legislated responsibilities.
Project assessment officers are employed by the environmental assessment office, they:
- Provide advice and guidance on Environmental Assessment review material in accordance with the Act
- Conduct research, analyze material and provide conclusions
- Work in consultation with review agencies, First Nations and the public
- Oversee the negotiations of technically complex issues
- Manage multiple projects
- Facilitate discussions to resolve environmental, economic and social issues
- Prepare options and recommendations within a policy and/or legislative framework
- Coordinate technical experts and consultants when needed
