A BC Public Service intellectual property manager (IPM) acts primarily in a consultative, advisory and representative role for client ministries and broader public sector organizations by managing government's intellectual property.
The position is responsible for:
- Providing strategic policy and planning advice, information and support in the areas of intellectual property management and alternate service delivery to government and the broader public sector
- Managing the government's interest in intellectual property including the integration of intellectual property management strategies with overall commercial activities to leverage government's purchasing power
- Providing input for the strategic application of intellectual property rights in the negotiation of major contracts
- Negotiating creative intellectual property terms and conditions
- Promoting private sector job creation and economic development opportunities through aggressively licensing IP rights to the private sector
- Acting on behalf of the Province for the negotiation and approval of licensing agreements and marketing Intellectual Property Program activities to clients
