The BC Wildfire Service (BCWS) works with various partners at all stages of wildfire management. Our guide aims to strengthen our collective effectiveness by understanding our complementary roles and responsibilities.

Our partners

Working together helps us manage wildfires better. Collaboration enhances safety and speeds up response times during emergencies.

Emergency management

The Ministry of Emergency Management and Climate Readiness (EMCR) coordinates support and resources for affected communities.

Local governments

Local governments issue evacuation alerts and orders for their communities, and manage wildfires within their municipal boundaries.

Rural and remote firefighters

Rural and remote firefighters are self-organized groups who have signed up to support BCWS activities during wildfires.

Forest industry businesses

Forest industry contractors and licencees report, control and stop wildfires that happen in their area.

How we manage evacuations during a wildfire

When a wildfire threatens safety, BCWS and supporting agencies coordinate evacuation efforts. Understand the 2 primary types of evacuations, their differences and the roles partners play in keeping our communities safe and informed throughout these emergencies.
