Intimate Images Protection Service

Last updated on March 11, 2026

Having your private images shared without your consent can happen quickly and have serious impacts. The Intimate Images Protection Service provides coordinated support to people in B.C. who have had someone share (or threaten to share) their intimate images without their consent.

How we can help you

The Intimate Images Protection Service can help you by:

  • Providing emotional support and resources
  • Sharing information about your legal rights and options
  • Acting as a "helper" if you choose to apply to the Civil Resolution Tribunal (for example, provide information, emotional support, help completing your application)
  • Sending Intimate Images Protection Orders to online platforms and people who have shared your image without consent

Unsure if we can help? Contact us directly to talk about your situation and concerns.

When you contact us

You can contact us by phone or email. A member of the team will ask for some basic information to help us understand your situation and your needs. The way we support you will always be guided by your choices – we can help you with whatever pathways you choose.

Everything you share with the Intimate Images Protection Service is confidential. Your information will not be shared with third parties unless you give us permission to, or in exceptional situations required by law. We can explain these situations before you share any personal information.

Help for children and youth

What you tell us is confidential.

We will not share what you tell us with anyone else.

In rare situations, we may be required by law to tell someone – for example, if you or someone else is in imminent danger. If you have concerns or questions about this, we can talk about it before you tell us anything.

It is your choice whether to involve your parent or guardian.

The Intimate Images Protection Service will not contact your parent or guardian without your permission.

Even if you’re not comfortable involving a parent or guardian, we encourage you to contact us. We will give you support and information about your options for what you can do next.

We know it can be hard to talk about this.

If you choose to involve an adult:

  • We can support you with talking to your parent, guardian, or another adult you trust
  • If you want us to, we can also directly talk to them about your situation

The Intimate Images Protection Service can also help you by:

  • Talking about what happened and how you’re feeling
  • Sharing information about your options, to help you decide what you want to do next
  • Connecting you with youth-focused services
    • Need Help Now and Take It Down can help remove your intimate images from Snapchat, TikTok, Instagram, and other websites/apps
    • erase Report It Tool is an easy way to send a private message to your B.C school or school district’s safe school coordinator. You can report anonymously or include your name, and they will follow up on the situation right away

You may also want to look at resources for youth (and people supporting youth).

Help for parents and legal guardians

If someone has shared (or threatened to share) intimate images of your child or youth, you can contact us for support and information about your options.

  • We know this can be hard to talk about. If you aren’t sure what to say to your child or youth, we can help
  • It is often best for your child/youth to be involved
    • Making decisions together about next steps can help them regain a sense of control
    • Whatever pathway you choose, your child/youth can help by sharing more information and helping collect evidence (for example, copies of intimate images, screenshots of messages)
    • We understand you may have other concerns about involving your child or youth – contact us to discuss
  • We may be able to work with you directly if your child or youth:
    • Is 11 years old or younger
    • Tells us they want us to work with you, on their behalf
    • Has difficulty understanding the situation and expressing their views

You may also want to look at resources for youth (and people supporting youth).

Help with the Civil Resolution Tribunal (CRT) process

The Intimate Images Protection Service can help you by:

  • Acting as a "helper" through the CRT process
  • Providing general information about the CRT process
  • Helping you fill out your application and other forms

After you receive an Intimate Images Protection Order from the CRT, we can also help by:

  • Sending your protection order on your behalf (to online platforms or people who have shared your image without consent)
  • Providing instructions and information if you want to send the protection order yourself (to online platforms or people who have shared your image without consent)
  • Helping you make a CRT claim for an administrative penalty if a person or online platform doesn't comply with the intimate image protection order

You may also want to learn more about making a claim through the CRT and B.C.’s Intimate Images Protection Act.

What we can't help with

The Intimate Images Protection Service cannot:

  • Represent you through the CRT process
    • We can support you through the CRT process within a "helper" role, but cannot communicate with the CRT on your behalf or be included in the CRT’s communications to you
    • To make a claim or access more information, please visit the CRT website or contact us
  • Provide legal advice or representation
    • We can provide information, but we cannot provide you with legal representation or advice
