Eligibility

This service is for organizations registered with the Criminal Records Review Program (CRRP). It explains how to start a new criminal record check for the people they need to screen.

What you'll need

To submit criminal record checks, your organization must have:

  • Access to the organization online platform, or
  • A secure link and access code

To access the organization online platform your organization must be registered with the CRRP with a Business BCeID.

Overview

Fees

Your organization can choose if the applicant pays for their own criminal record check or if the organization pays the fee. Fees are not refundable.

Criminal record checks are free for volunteers working in eligible volunteer organizations.

Payment methods

  • Credit card (recommended)
  • Certified cheque or money order payable to the Minister of Finance

Submit

There are different ways to start a criminal record check

Organization online platform

Send a secure link directly to applicants through the organization online platform. This lets them submit a criminal record check themselves. Refer to your organization’s orientation package for detailed instructions.

Log In

Secure link and access code

If you don’t have access to the organization online platform, you can get a secure link and access code from the CRRP. Give these to applicants so they can submit their criminal record checks online. Refer to your organization’s orientation package for more instructions.

After you submit

Next steps

If the applicant is from outside Canada, you should ask them to get a criminal record check from their home country. You don't need to submit this to the CRRP.

Timelines

Criminal record checks usually take up to one week to process. It could take longer if:

  • The applicant needs to submit fingerprints
  • The criminal record check shows an offence
  • The applicant's file needs adjudication (further review)

The applicant can work, volunteer or attend school while you wait for the results.
