Electronic Identity Verification (EIV) prior to a criminal records review
The applicant based online service, known as the eCRC, verifies an applicant’s identity using Electronic Identity Verification (EIV). EIV meets the RCMP’s standard for electronically verifying an applicant's identity.
EIV uses personal information collected by the credit reporting agency Equifax to verify an applicant’s identity. EIV is not a credit report and is used only to ensure that the information contained in an applicant’s criminal record consent form is accurate. The Criminal Records Review Program (CRRP) does not keep the information provided by Equifax.
To use EIV you must:
- Have a credit history in Canada of at least 6 months
- Have lived in Canada for at least two years
- Answer a set of security questions unique to your personal credit history correctly
- Have a current Canadian address (do not enter a foreign address in the online service)
If you do not meet the above requirements, you must contact your organization and obtain the applicable consent form from an Authorized Contact person.
