Critical Minerals Office

Last updated on February 4, 2025

The critical minerals sector is foundational for our clean energy future, and British Columbia (B.C.) is implementing a Critical Minerals Strategy, with 11 key actions. As a key priority of the strategy, the Critical Minerals Office (CMO) will help advance critical minerals projects.

The CMO:

  • Is a dedicated office supporting the advancement of B.C. critical minerals projects across the value chain that contribute to a low carbon future.
  • Will work with industry, unions, stakeholders and First Nations to develop and implement a capital markets and investment attraction strategy that identifies opportunities for mineral exploration and the critical minerals sector.

What does the CMO do?

  • Support exploration and early-stage critical minerals projects to remove barriers to entering regulatory processes efficiently.
  • Increase industry and investor interest in critical minerals opportunities in British Columbia.
  • Promote critical minerals mining and value chain projects to capital markets and the Federal government.
  • Support the participation of interested First Nations in critical minerals opportunities.
  • Find areas of alignment between the First Nations Energy and Mining Council’s Critical Minerals Strategy and B.C.’s Critical Minerals Strategy.

CMO client services
The CMO will work with industry, First Nations, government agencies and others on project advancement by establishing concierge services tailored to different stages of project development, supporting efficient entry into permitting processes. The CMO will also help address mission critical project barriers for priority projects.

The CMO does not replace or change the statutory requirement of any government agency.
