Objectives

  • Monitor vegetation cover and composition on burned and unburned portions of cutblock
  • Monitor the impact of a broadcast burn on soil properties

Experimental design

Three areas were compared descriptively:

  • Unburned ICHdw/01a
  • Burned ICHdw/01a
  • Burned ICHdw/01b

Layout

  • 5 - 15m line intersect transects and 25 - .5 m2 quadrats to measure shrub and herb cover and height on each of the areas described above
  • 3 - 30m triangles for fuel, forest floor and soil monitoring

  • September 1985 prescribed burn and post-burn measurements
  • August 1986, 1987, 1988, 1989 remeasurement
  • Spring 1998 resample soils
  • Summer 1999 remeasured
