The Table of Provincial and Territorial Ministers Responsible for Local Government is a strategic organization that promotes intergovernmental discussion and information sharing across provinces and territories on issues affecting local governments. B.C. is represented at the ministers’ table.
The ministers meet annually to set collaboration priorities and develop positions on shared issues. The ministers’ table is supported by the Secretariat of the Table of Provincial and Territorial Ministers Responsible for Local Government (SMLG), which leads collective provincial-territorial actions in support of the Table’s priorities.
The Provincial and Territorial Ministers Responsible for Local Government Collaboration Agreement - 2019 (PDF, 229KB) describes the principles, objectives and mandate of the ministers’ table.
The agreement provides a formal basis for the ministers’ table, a table of deputy ministers, and the SMLG to meet and collaborate; facilitating research, analysis, planning, and sharing of information. All 13 ministers of each province and territory ratified the agreement. It signals a shared commitment to support local governments.
Muniscope is the website of the SMLG. It provides local government staff with research services and information about local government best practices.
